ミュージアム紹介｜本庄早稲田の杜ミュージアム

「本庄早稲田の杜ミュージアム」は、本庄市と早稲田大学が共同で開設するミュージアムです。市と大学が所蔵する豊富な資料を活用し、地域の歴史をグローバルな視点でとらえる展示を行います。

本庄市展示室では、多種多様な埴輪をはじめとする考古資料や年表等で、本庄の歴史と文化をたどります。

早稲田大学展示室では、定期的に企画展覧会を開催し、オセアニア民族造形美術品をはじめ、大学が所蔵する貴重な文化財を最新の研究成果とともに公開します。

本庄市と早稲田大学は、ミュージアムのある大久保山、浅見山丘陵の恵まれた自然環境と多様な遺跡や文化財に囲まれた一帯を「本庄早稲田文化の杜」とし、地域文化の拠点と位置付けています。ミュージアムはその中核施設として、本庄の歴史と文化の魅力を発信します。

The Honjo-Waseda no Mori Museum is jointly operated by Honjo City and Waseda University. We explore the history of the region from a global perspective with exhibits featuring a wealth of materials curated by the city and the university.

In the Honjo City Galleries, visitors will learn about the history and culture of Honjo through a wide variety of archaeological materials such as Haniwa, as well as through a chronology and other informative material.

The Waseda University Gallery regularly hold exhibitions to present valuable cultural properties maintained by the university, such as Waseda’s collection of Oceanian folk art, along with the latest related research.

The museum is located in the “Honjo-Waseda Cultural Forest” surrounded by a vibrant natural environment as well as the numerous archaeological sites and cultural properties found in Okuboyama and the Azamiyama Hills. Honjo City and Waseda University consider the Forest to be a central hub of local culture. As the core facility in the area, the museum educates its visitors about Honjo’s fascinating history and culture.

ミュージアムは5つのエリアで構成されています。

The museum consists of five areas.

A. インフォメーション＆ショップ Information & Shop

展示やイベント等の最新情報をご案内します。図録やグッズ等を販売するショップも併設しています。

Here visitors can find the latest information on exhibits and events. There is also a shop that sells catalogs and goods.

B. 埴輪の世界 The World of Haniwa in Honjo

本庄では3世紀後半から4世紀前半にかけて古墳が築かれはじめます。4世紀後半になると埴輪が現れ、5世紀には人物や馬などが表現されるようになり、6世紀になると、靫(ゆぎ)、翳(さしば)、盾持人物などあらゆる種類の埴輪が作られました。ここでは市内の古墳から出土したさまざまな埴輪を展示しています。

Mounded tombs known as Kofun began to be built in Honjo City at some point between the latter half of the 3rd and early 4th centuries. Haniwa appeared in the latter half of the 4th century, with humans, horses, and other figures beginning to be crafted during the 5th century. In the 6th century, a wide array of Haniwa were made, including in the shapes of quivers, Sashiba (ceremonial shades), and smiling men holding shields.
In this gallery, we display a variety of Haniwa excavated from the Kofun found in Honjo City.

C. 本庄の歩み History of Honjo City

本庄に人々が暮らし始めた約2万年前の旧石器時代から16世紀の室町時代までの出土資料を展示して本庄の歴史を紹介します。さらに、映像や年表で現代までの歴史をたどります。
関連資料として、エジプトの貿易都市アル＝フスタート遺跡出土資料など、早稲田大学が所蔵する文化財を展示しています。

In the Honjo City Exhibition Gallery, we introduce the history of Honjo City with excavated artifacts from the Paleolithic era, a period beginning around 20,000 years ago, when people first began to live in the area, through the Muromachi period in the 16th century. Visitors can also learn about the city’s history from early to modern times through pictures and a chronology.
In addition, other related artifacts can be seen on display in this gallery, such as Waseda’s collection of cultural properties from the ruins of the trade city Al Fustat in Egypt.

D. 早稲田大学展示室　 Waseda University Gallery

早稲田大学は、500万点以上の美術品、書画、博物資料、図書資料、映像資料などを所蔵しており、これらの文化資源の公開と活用に積極的に取り組んでいます。この展示室では、そういった大学が所蔵する貴重な文化財を中心とした企画展示を行います。

Waseda University has more than 5 million items in its collection, including art, calligraphy, historical materials, books, and videos, and is actively working to make meaningful use of these cultural resources by opening them to the public. This gallery will feature special exhibitions centering on valuable cultural properties curated by Waseda University.

E. 交流ひろば Cultural Exchange Square & Lounge

図録や関連図書を備え、それぞれの関心に応じて、歴史を調べることができます。見て、触れて、作って、試すなど、文化財を身近に体感できるワークショップ等もこのエリアで行います。

In this area, visitors can delve into the aspects of Honjo’s history they find most interesting with the museum’s library of catalogs and related books. We also hold workshops and other activities in this area, allowing our guests to intimately experience cultural properties through sight, touch, and crafts.
